This course provides students with a comprehensive historical and sociological examination of migration from Mexico to the United States. After providing a historical context, the course will focus on economic, demographic, political trends, and policy issues and their implication for immigrants and their descendents. The consequences of immigration legislation and immigration law enforcement (including the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border), and the economic importance and social and cultural contributions of Mexican migration to both the U.S. and Mexico are also examined.
